I made a sailing analytics tool – and it’s really good!
I am the harbour captain and a board member of Rangsta Boat Club in Nynäshamn. We organize a few sailing competitions each year, but participation is often low. Committing an entire day to sail racing can be challenging, especially with family and other responsibilities—something I personally experience as well. We explored various digital solutions for tracking and analyzing sailing competitions, but none proved to be practical due to high costs and a lack of useful feature, So, I took matters into my own hands and developed a solution tailored to our needs.
For years I wanted to encourage sailing in our club by introducing digital tools without result. This winter, I started to create my own sailing competition platform with a few core visions in mind:
- A platform to encourage sailing and learning about sailing faster
- Encourage small bursts of easy access sailing challenges, ideal for families and short sailings
- A non complicated approach to logging – submit whatever you have, even if it’s just the timing
- Provide a log for sailors not owning a boat, and provide a feedback loop from the skipper
- Easy to use course planning tool
- Deploy (or copy) a local course to anywhere in the world – so people can compete on the same course worldwide
- Worldwide ranking
- Easy to set up regattas and boat clubs to gather local sailors
- A badge system similar to a page I love using for running (Smashrun)
- Possibility to run video parallel to the GPS log for verification and learning (not implemented yet)
- A leading GPS replay visualisation tool
- Free to use
Early April – I was finally able to uncover the first version of SailSix together with my son Filip who has been helping a lot with testing and ideas. We are very proud over the product and encourage sailors to give it a try. We are very happy to receive feedback from you to develop and hatch new ideas. The tool is free and is made out of our passion for sailing.
