Cabin lighting with Red Light

After having to replace the on/off switch in both lamps, and even re-bend the light fixtures inside because the lens kept falling out, I felt it was finally time to replace the cabin ceiling lights. I also wanted to give the cabin a more updated look. The new lights had to emit both white and red light, and ideally have a dimming function as well.

I started searching, but being on a budget I didn’t want to spend 150 euros per light – especially since I needed four.

After a few nights of research, I discovered that the brand I was considering also sold through Amazon, AliExpress etc. at a much lower price. This is something I’ve seen before, like when Icom sells their IC-M25 handhelds for a fraction of the price compared to Swedish resellers.

I decided to order two units first to test them out. They arrived quickly, and the quality didn’t disappoint. They felt just as solid as the Hella lights I checked out in the chandlery. It’s impossible to tell which electronic components are used inside, but when you can buy six units for the price of one Hella, I’ll take my chances. To my eye, they even looked better than the more expensive unit.

I was initially hesitant about the touch controls, especially for rough-weather sailing, but so far the lights have been excellent. They’re simple to operate, and the dimmer works flawlessly. On the first touch, the red light turns on. On the second, the white light activates. To dim, simply hold your finger on the unit until you reach the desired brightness. Best of all, the lamp even remembers the previous setting. The input voltage range is 12-30V, making them ideal for use with lithium battery systems that have a slightly higher voltage, as well as 24V systems. Great stuff!
